‘CSI’ (Who and What)’Without a Trace’ Promo

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

normal_csi-lv-806_05.jpg

I’m really excited and intrigued by this episode. Jack and Grissom have such different styles. It’ll be interesting to compare Jack’s physicality and Grissom’s cerebral focus. They even move differently. Grissom’s walk is very deliberate and controlled. Jack doesn’t walk as much as stalk his prey. Jack moves like he’s looking for a fight. You almost always know what Jack is thinking. Grissom leaves those around him wondering what his intentions are. Intimate relationships are very different for them as well. It’s taken Gil years to become involved with Sara. Since we’ve known Jack, he’s had a wife, a mistress and a girlfriend(Jack likes the ladies). I’m sure he’s well on his way to another cycle. Still, they essentially value the same things, their teams and the pursuit of justice. It’s going to make some good for some very good television. Can’t wait for November 1st.

Win the Watching CSI Trivia Contest

Friday, October 19th, 2007

readingcsi.jpg

Alrighty folks we’ve got our first contest going.
What do you win?
I started here because it’s really the most important part. The prize is a spiffy new copy of Reading CSI:Crime TV Under the Microscope. It’s a really interesting book that looks at the CSI franchise from some pretty intriguing angles(It’s really hard for me to let this one go but for you guys I’ll do it).

Reading CSI:Crime TV Under the Microscope is a collection of critical discussions(all three CSIs are included) from a wide range of perspectives.

Some of my favorite topics are:

  • Anatomizing Gil Grissom
  • The deeper meaning behind Horatio Cain’s sunglasses
  • Mac Taylor’s melancholy in association with 9/11
  • The pornographic quality of the CSI effect
  • Here’s how is going to work.
For every trivia fact you submit you’ll get one entry. Trivia can be concerning any character from any CSI or any cast member of any CSI.  Entries will be taken until November 1st.

Trivia is classified as a little known fact.
    Examples of trivia:
Gary Dourdan was discovered by Debbie Allen as he walked down a street in Paris.

    Not trivia:
Mac Taylor is a widow. Mac Taylor plays bass.
Marg Helgenberger is an Emmy and Golden Globe winner.
    How do you enter?
Reply to this entry or email me at kd.griffin[at]451press.net.

I look forward to reading all your great trivia submissions. Thanks to Palgrave Macmillan. for providing the prize.

Check out another great 451 contest over at Country Musical Herald.

Jorja Fox Talks About Leaving CSI

    Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

    jorjafoxcar.jpg

In an exclusive interview with EW.com, Jorja Fox talked about why she’s leaving the hit series. Actually she’s left. Monday was her last day on set.   This section of the interview gives you a look of where Jorja is coming from:

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: So, Jorja, whose call was this for you to leave CSI — yours or CBS’?
JORJA FOX: It’s my call — and a very, very difficult one, something I’ve been thinking about for a long, long time. It’s one of the hardest decisions I’ve made in my life. It has nothing to do with my contract, nothing to do with money…. It could be the stupidest thing I’ve ever done in my life. Only time will tell.

    Okay, but…why?
There are so many things I want to do! Some are personal. Some are professional. And I really need to do some of them before I get too old…. It’s a really intense place to work. A lot of the stories [on the show] do end sadly and badly. That’s been one of the things I’ve struggled with — the violence. I’m not saying I’ll never do another violent [project], because I’m sure that I’ll be back in that world someday, but it’s really good for me to take a break from it.

This has come as a terrible blow to many of Jorja’s fans who campaigned tirelessly in hopes that monetary concerns were the reason for the stars potential departure.

It appears that Jorja needed to take a break for personal reasons. That’s completely understandable considering the grind of a primetime series. Jorja even joked that she “forgot” to have kids. This isn’t an extremely young cast and many are coming to a crossroads in their lives. I’d imagine that after more than seven years this is only the beginning of more cast departures.

    Will Dailey Does CSI:NY

    Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

willdailey.jpgTonight we’ll get another chance to see Gary Sinise’s musical talent. The episode will show him playing bass for Will Dailey’s single “Rise,” from Dailey’s Back Flipping Forward CD.

Dailey is a singer songwriter from Boston who financed his first CD, GoodbyeRedBullet, by selling his car. Back Flipping Forward was first released in 2006 when Dailey was on an indie label. He has since signed with CBS Records who remixed and remastered it for it’s October 2nd release. His music has been on a number of shows including CSI: Miami(”Rise” and “Eliza” where featured in “Born to Kill”), Jericho, NCIS, The Young and the Restless, What About Brian, The Hills and Army Wives.

CBS just released a clip of Gary and Will preforming from tonight’s show. Looks like he there might be something going on with Mac and Stella-nothing shippy just a deep friendship moment.

CSI New York Heads to Second Life

    Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

    csisecondlife.jpg

Next week Mac Taylor is headed into virtual reality thanks to CSI creator Anthony Zuiker. Zuiker asked writers to create a Second Life storyline involving a young woman who looks like an avatar brought to life. In Second Life, avatars are characters people create to live in an online world. The character has green hair, outrageous clothes and she’s the most popular um-person in this virtual world. Zuiker refers to her as the Paris Hilton of Second Life. She’s being targeted by a jealous competitor that wants to take over her ID.

Mr. Zuiker said the plot would have Mac Taylor introduced to this new world by the younger members of his crime team. But then Taylor, using electronic clues to track the killer, would enter Second Life to chase the avatar. The tougher part was finding a way to extend the experience for the many viewers who, Mr. Zuiker knew from his work on several previous episodes, would be willing to follow the episode with some kind of interactivity online.

This is the cool part. We can investigate in conjunction with the episodes(they’ll be another in February). There will be three levels of participation depending on your level of expertise and how involved you wish to be. From what I understand, even those with limited computer experience will be able to participate.

Zuiker stressed that the “CSI: NY” virtual world in Second Life will be geared for the “CSI” fan rather than the early adopter, with shorter download times and an avatar of Zuiker to walk visitors through the virtual Manhattan.

If you’re reading this blog you should be able to do at least level one.

Mr. Zuiker said the first level of participation, the simplest, will allow viewers to walk around the representations of New York buildings and then visit a CSI lab, where they can play basic forensic games, like facial recognition.

The second level is much more elaborate. It consists of a game called “Murder by Zuiker,” based on a murder plot that Mr. Zuiker created and the Electric Sheep engineers have transformed into a scene in Second Life. Mr. Zuiker will leave clues around the murder scene. He will post and rank the 100 people who come closest to his explanation of the murder, and, he said, the winner will “get a virtual gift for his or her avatar.”

The final stage of game play will allow “CSI” fans to become CSI investigators. They will receive a field kit and tools, get a chance to interview suspects and be given the opportunity to solve the murder featured in the episode. The final gimmick of that episode is that it will end in a cliffhanger: it will not be resolved until an episode in February.

This sounds so cool. I’m definately in.

    Jorja Fox Officially Leaving CSI

    Monday, October 15th, 2007

    prettyjorjathumbnail.jpg

EW.com has exclusively learning that Jorja Fox is indeed leaving CSI and it’s not because of a monetary dispute.

“There are all these things I want to do. Some are personal. Some are professional. And I really need to do some of them before I get too old,” explains Fox. “If I thought the show were on its last legs, I would have tried harder to stay the course. But I feel like its going to be around for a while, so if I don’t want some of those dreams to pass me by. I have to get off the ride for a while.”

Jorja’s fans have been working tirelessly to make sure she was offered a fair and equitable raise since word leaked that she might not be returning to TV’s number one unscripted show(I do like saying that).   There will be more of EW.com’s exclusive interview with Jorja on Wednesday.
