Writers Guild Pickets CSI New York

Monday, November 12th, 2007

garyphoto.JPG

Today a CSI:NY location shoot was targeted by the Writer’s Guild of America. Gary Sinise was shooting on an LA street(doubling as a New York street). As he arrived, Gary smiled at the picketers who chanted things like, “No justice, no peace” “We need you, Sinise” and “You da man Lieutenant Dan!” One guy had written out all of Gary’s Sinise’s “big speeches from his movies” and read them over and over again on a bullhorn. The Bullhorn Guy also tried to made him laugh by saying things like, “You’re not in New York!” and “The husband did it. Change the channel. The husband did it. Change the channel!” Gary apparently took it all in stride. I wonder what episode they were shooting.

Below you’ll find a video of the picket.

David Rambo and Other Writers Encourage CASA Donations

Sunday, November 11th, 2007

First, I need to apologize. I actually had this information a couple of days ago but I’ve not been able to post it until now.

One of our faithful readers, Chadini(she rocks), and several other fans have been sending lunch to the writers on the picket line. She was lucky enough to receive an email from CSI producer/writer David Rambo about the much appreciated deliveries. They are actually overun with food and drink right now and would like fans to donate to CASA instead of continuing to provide lunch and beverages.

Here’s the letter:

What made the delivery extra special was that it arrived just as Jorja Fox started walking the line with us.[David Berman, William Petersen and Robert David Hall joined the line a few days earlier] We are all grateful, thank you –

Now, in all seriousness, I have to tell you that food and water are turning out to be in bountiful supply at our picketing spot. The generosity of fans, agents, production offices, and others is overwhelming. We talked about this phenomenon on the line today, and wanted to let you know that we’re more than well cared-for. In fact, we’re beginning to feel a little guilty that you and others have been so generous. What we’d really like most, if you do want to continue to show support for our strike, would be for the fans to make additional donations to CASA in honor of the striking writers. That way, our strike is helping others in far less fortunate circumstances in addition to protecting our writers’ rights. Would you mind sharing this request with any fansites you think would like to know?

By the way, there is an excellent short video that tells the story of the really simple issue at stake on YouTube. The address is:

The CSI fans are the greatest. All of us on the show — writers, producers, cast and crew — are grateful for your support at this challenging time.

Thank you very much,
David Rambo

Marg Helgenberger Walks WGA Picket Line

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

margpicketline.jpg

Marg Helgenberger showed her support yesterday for the Writer’s Guild of America(WGA) as she walked the picket line for a few hours. The Screen Actor’s Guild, Marg’s hubby Alan Rosenburg is the president, encouraged their members to support the writer’s strike.

Marg said she wasn’t surprised that the strike had been called.

“I had my doubts about things moving forward [after the weekend's negotiation],” Marg said. “Of course I held out hope, especially with all of that last-minute stuff with [former WGA President and ER exec producer] John Wells getting involved. It’s sad it has come to this. Nobody wanted this to happen. Nobody.”

Marg was glad she could lend support to her fellow artists. “It’s sort of fun. I’m glad to be standing alongside these people. If there was ever a time in history to stand up, this is it. This is where you draw the line in the sand.”

Writer’s are striking over profit sharing for new media.

What Does the Writer’s Strike Mean for CSI?

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

normal_csi-lv-s8cast_01.jpg

Well folks, it looks that the weekend long closed door negotiations are not working and the strike is set to begin tomorrow. Primetime shows probably have or can squeeze a month’s worth of episodes out the scripts they already have on hand.

Let’s take the original as an example. We know that Jorja Fox’s last episode is done and set to air next week. That will be the 7th episode of the season. From what I’m hearing, they probably can or have eeked out at least four more episodes. That will give us 11 episodes for the season. After November sweeps, they usually run some reruns so we are probably going to see new episodes for the first couple of weeks in January.

csinypromobeam.jpg

There are some rumors around that shows have stockpiled scripts. Marg Helgenberger has squashed that suggestion.

“You read about this stockpiling of scripts, but in TV you don’t have enough manpower or hours in the day to stockpile.,” Marg said. “You’d have to have three staffs working 24/7 to make that happen; that’s not how it works.”

It doesn’t sound nearly as bad IF they can resolve the issues in two months time. Still it will take some time to get back on track.

normal_season3dvd.jpg

At issues is profit sharing for new media like Itunes. The industry big wigs want to take a wait and see attitude with revenue but writer’s say they’ve been screwed out of revenue like that before. Think DVDs. At least 25 percent of the people I know, catch their favorite CSI on Innertube at least a few times during the season. I tend to watch in real time while recording but things happen and technology fails. The commercials aren’t nearly as plentiful online but CBS is making money from it…..

Video:CSI Miami ‘Chain Reaction’ Promo(6×7)

Saturday, November 3rd, 2007

The nemesis is back and Kyle is back and someone gets killed walking down a runway. Another typical week in Miami. This episode looks better than the the last two which I found boring. I do hate that Kyle is still in jail. It seems like a total waste of a good character. Horatio is portrayed as Superman. Why can’t he get is kid out out? Maybe I’m too anxious.

Video: CSI - A Farewell to Sara set for November 15th

Saturday, November 3rd, 2007

Wow. CBS is really pulling out all stops with their online videos. They’ve pulled up some great CSI moments including Butterflied when Grissom finally admitted his feelings for Sara. It looks like the final scene may be Sara driving away in a car. This is going to be a hard one to watch especially if we find out that Grissom and Sara are indeed married.

CSI New York Heads to Chicago

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

csi-ny1.jpg

Monday found Gary Sinise filming exteriors for CSI:NY in Chicago. No, it’s not time for another spinoff. In a quest to smoke out his 333 stalker, Mac will head to his Chicago hometown in search of answers. I’m sure this is all related to the creepy voodoo lady’s diatribe about the sins of youth.

Incidentally Chicago is Gary’s own hometown . He didn’t campaign for the Chicago location but was pleased. “It was a surprise actually. They all know I’m from Chicago and we set up early on that my character was from Chicago. The writers came up with some really great ideas and thought it would be good to come back here and shoot and I was all for it.”

Mac visits landmarks like the Tribune Tower and the Wrigely Building. Sinise hinted that some items on the exterior of the Tribune Building will be incorporated into the plot. “I had no idea that these things were on the building. In fact some of them kind of tie in to our story a little bit.”

Gary actually started the Steppenwolf Theater, a Chicago landmark, along with three other actors in 1974. Interesting bit of trivia here. William Petersen, another Chicago native, later preformed and honed his craft at Steppenwolf. CSI owes Chicago a lot.

The episode featuring Chicago is set to air on November 28th. No word on the episode title yet. It’s nice when CSI steps outside of the box. Of course we always get a little extra around sweeps time. Maybe one of the franchises will head down my way next.
