Megalyn Echikunwoke Joins Cast of CSI Miami

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

Last month she was announced as recurring cast member but now she’s series a regular. Echikunwoke’s character medical examiner Dr. Tara Price makes her first appearance in the second ep of the season.

“Megalyn Echikunwoke is an exciting addition to CSI: Miami,” Ann Donahue, one of the series’ executive producers, said about the new cast member “She brings savvy and humor to her role of Dr. Tara Price, a young medical examiner whose methods are on the cutting edge of technology.”

Megalyn is replacing Khandi Alexxander who left the series last season. It’s been rumored that Alexx will still turn up from time to time.  It should be fun to see how these two interact.  I don’t know a lot about the Tara price character.

Echikunwoke portrayed Nicole Palmer in the first season of 24, and is also appeared in The 4400. .

William Petersen Set to Star in British Play

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

We knew that William Petersen was set to star in a Summer 2009 Victory Gardens production but the actual play hadn’t been decided until now. After completing his winter run at Victory Gardens, Billy will take on David Harrower’s Blackbird.

Blackbird is a real-time account of the awkward reunion of Ray and Una, 15 years after a passionate affair when he was 40 and she was just a minor. Ray is confronted with his past when Una arrives unannounced at his workplace. Guilt, rage and raw emotions run high as they recollect their forbidden relationship. After years in prison and subsequent hardships, Ray has a new identity and has made a new life for himself, thinking that he could no longer be found. But Una, now 27, has thought of nothing else since, and on finding a photo of Ray, sets out to find him, looking for answers, not vengeance. Nonetheless, their reunion has a devastating effect that will leave audiences stunned.

The play won the 2005-2006 Critics’ Awards for Theatre in Scotland for Best New Play and the 2007 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play. I’m assuming WP is cast as the middle age man. I’m a huge WP fan but I’m not sure this is my cup of tea. I’ve still got nearly a year to decide since I’ll probably miss the winter production. What about you?

Laurence Fishburne Officially Cast in CSI

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

It’s official. Laurence Fishburne is set to join CSI this fall. I can’t say it’s a choice I would have even contemplated but as far as I am concerned it’s a pretty good one. According to show runners, he’s not exactly replacing William Petersen but then again he is.

“There’s never going to be another William Petersen, and there will never be another Jorja Fox. But we are not out to just replace those actors. We’re out to add new characters to the show, and the show will change as a result. But that’s a good thing,” says CSI executive producer Carol Mendelsohn.

According to Buddy TV, some fans are having issues with the casting wondering if perhaps Fishburne is just too big an actor for the the ensemble cast. I don’t know that  you want some unknown taking on a major spot in the cast at this point. That was fine when the show first started but with the loss of three original cast members you need something to keep viewers interested.

Eva LaRue Attends El Faro Benefit

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

Eva La Rue attended the 5th Annual Friends of El Faro Benefit to raise funds for the kids of Tijuana’s Casa Hogar Sion Orphanage on August 7, 2008 at Boulevard 3 in Hollywood, California. The Friends of El Faro was founded by Adam Smith and his wife Leigh Kilton-Smith. Since 2000, the couple have “have been traveling with a circle of friends to Tijuana, Mexico every four to five weeks to spend the weekend with the more then 100 children of Casa Hogar Sion orphanage.”

The oprhanage itself opened in 1999 when “Mama Carmen and Papa Jorge Gonzales opened the doors of their home to a few abandoned children living on the street”. Eventually the couple used their retirement savings to purchase a piece of land.

Last year, Jorja Fox and other CSI Vegas cast memebers helped support the organization by donating an autographed script and a Jorja Fox recorded phone message for auction. To learn more about how you can help click HERE.

Khandi Alexander Set to Star in HBO Series

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

Khandi will joined Wire alumns Wendell Pierce and Clarke Peters in Treme, a series set in post Katrina New Orleans. Khandi plays a bar owner and ex -wife of Pierce’s character Antoine Batiste. I don’t believe that Khandi has worked with Pierce before but she did work with Peters in the groundbreaking The Corner. It’s good to see her finding new projects and challenging herself. She was a phemom as Fran in The Corner. where she played a crack addicted woman.

Before CSI:Miami Khandi also worked as Whitney’s Houston choreographer from 1988-1993. She then went on to star as Catherine Duke on NewsRadio and the recurring character Jackie Robbins on ER. Khandi worked has been on CSI:Miami sense the first season. It was certainly time for her to move on spread her wings. Can’t wait to see her in this project.

Video: Jorja Fox Thanks the Monkey

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

Jorja Fox recently attended the launch of the new book Thanking The Monkey: Rethinking the way we treat animals. Jorja, a longtime vegetarian and animal right’s activist chats with Access Hollywood about recycling and going green. (The ever cute Emily Deschanel from Bones makes and appearance as well.)

The book itself looks to be a fun primer on being kinder to our furry friends:

Thanking the Monkey is light on lectures meant to make you feel guilty if you’re not a leather-eschewing vegan. It lets you have fun as you learn about Paul McCartney’s love of lambs and why Prince won’t wear wool. You’ll meet Fall Out Boy’s Andy Hurley and Pete Wentz—and their favorite traveling companion, Hemingway, Pete’s dog. You’ll read why Natalie Portman, Alicia Silverstone, and so many of those skinny but not bitchy actresses won’t eat or wear animals. And you’ll laugh over dozens of cartoons from Dan Piraro’s Bizzaro to other animal-friendly comics.

What’s In Store For CSI Season 9?

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Season 9 is sure to be doozy with Warrick’s being shot and William Petersen leaving we are in for bumpy ride folks. Here’s what we know so far, for sure.

  • Jorja Fox will return for multiple episodes.
  • Several famous male thespians are being pursued to join the cast. Names being batted about include Laurence Fishburne and Kurt Russell.
  • Lauren Lee Smith from The L Word joins the cast as CSI Riley Adams(I’m digging that name). At the point when she joins the cast, she’s the only CSI that hasn’t had Grissom as a mentor. That’s going to make their relationship….different.
  • Grissom will encounter the Miniature Killer again.
  • Lady Heather will return. She and Grissom will spend the night together. (Honestly this Lady Heather thing just doesn’t mesh with Grissom’s personality at all. /of personal opinion.)

William Petersen One Of TV’s’ Highest Paid Actors

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Most of this knew this already but when William Petersen leaves CSI this fall he’ll leave as one of the small screen’s highest wage earners. According to E! Online, WP earns $600,000. He’s only out earned by Charlie Sheen who brings home $825,000 per episode. Law and Order SVU’s Mariska Hargity is the most well compensated woman on television at $400,000 an ep. Kyra Sedgwick who leads the Closer cast is the “highest-paid actress in a cable drama” with her $275,000 per episode paycheck.

Other big money TV folks are:

American Idol’s Simon Cowell who makes $50 million to tell people they can’t sing.

David Letter who nets $32 million for hosting CBS’ Late Show.

And of course Miz Oprah who makes five million kazillion dollars a year for waking up in the morning.  Actually she pulls in $382 million a year.

Sigh.  I love blogging but I wonder if they’ve filled Billy’s spot yet.  I’d make a good CSI.  What?
