Writers Invite CSI Fans to Join Picket Line

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

davidrambo.JPG

Fabulous CSI Producer/Writer David Rambo[pictured above] and other WGA members are inviting CSI fans to join the WGA picket line.

An announcement from David Rambo reads:

We’re inviting any CSI fans who live in, or can arrange to visit, the Los Angeles area to picket with us this Friday, November 16 from 10AM to 2PM. We will be at Universal Studios, Gate #2 on Lankershim Boulevard. Parking is limited, so we recommend carpooling or taking the Metro to the Universal stop. There are numerous gates at Universal, so anyone coming should be sure to come to Gate #2.

Thanks for the support,
David Rambo

I won’t be able attend but I’d be really appreciative for any video or pictures from the event.  You can also show your support by donating to CASA.

Thanks to Chadini for sharing the letter.

Writers Guild Pickets CSI New York

Monday, November 12th, 2007

garyphoto.JPG

Today a CSI:NY location shoot was targeted by the Writer’s Guild of America. Gary Sinise was shooting on an LA street(doubling as a New York street). As he arrived, Gary smiled at the picketers who chanted things like, “No justice, no peace” “We need you, Sinise” and “You da man Lieutenant Dan!” One guy had written out all of Gary’s Sinise’s “big speeches from his movies” and read them over and over again on a bullhorn. The Bullhorn Guy also tried to made him laugh by saying things like, “You’re not in New York!” and “The husband did it. Change the channel. The husband did it. Change the channel!” Gary apparently took it all in stride. I wonder what episode they were shooting.

Below you’ll find a video of the picket.

David Rambo and Other Writers Encourage CASA Donations

Sunday, November 11th, 2007

First, I need to apologize. I actually had this information a couple of days ago but I’ve not been able to post it until now.

One of our faithful readers, Chadini(she rocks), and several other fans have been sending lunch to the writers on the picket line. She was lucky enough to receive an email from CSI producer/writer David Rambo about the much appreciated deliveries. They are actually overun with food and drink right now and would like fans to donate to CASA instead of continuing to provide lunch and beverages.

Here’s the letter:

What made the delivery extra special was that it arrived just as Jorja Fox started walking the line with us.[David Berman, William Petersen and Robert David Hall joined the line a few days earlier] We are all grateful, thank you –

Now, in all seriousness, I have to tell you that food and water are turning out to be in bountiful supply at our picketing spot. The generosity of fans, agents, production offices, and others is overwhelming. We talked about this phenomenon on the line today, and wanted to let you know that we’re more than well cared-for. In fact, we’re beginning to feel a little guilty that you and others have been so generous. What we’d really like most, if you do want to continue to show support for our strike, would be for the fans to make additional donations to CASA in honor of the striking writers. That way, our strike is helping others in far less fortunate circumstances in addition to protecting our writers’ rights. Would you mind sharing this request with any fansites you think would like to know?

By the way, there is an excellent short video that tells the story of the really simple issue at stake on YouTube. The address is:

The CSI fans are the greatest. All of us on the show — writers, producers, cast and crew — are grateful for your support at this challenging time.

Thank you very much,
David Rambo

Marg Helgenberger Walks WGA Picket Line

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

margpicketline.jpg

Marg Helgenberger showed her support yesterday for the Writer’s Guild of America(WGA) as she walked the picket line for a few hours. The Screen Actor’s Guild, Marg’s hubby Alan Rosenburg is the president, encouraged their members to support the writer’s strike.

Marg said she wasn’t surprised that the strike had been called.

“I had my doubts about things moving forward [after the weekend's negotiation],” Marg said. “Of course I held out hope, especially with all of that last-minute stuff with [former WGA President and ER exec producer] John Wells getting involved. It’s sad it has come to this. Nobody wanted this to happen. Nobody.”

Marg was glad she could lend support to her fellow artists. “It’s sort of fun. I’m glad to be standing alongside these people. If there was ever a time in history to stand up, this is it. This is where you draw the line in the sand.”

Writer’s are striking over profit sharing for new media.

Eric Szmanda Joins Call to Action for Burma

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

Eric Szmanda and 25 other celebrities have “sent a letter to the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon urging him to ‘personally intervene’ to secure the release of Aung San Suu Kyi, the world’s only imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize recipient. The letter was organized by the US Campaign for Burma[officially the Union of Myanmar] and Human Rights Action Center and led by Oscar-winning actress Anjelica Huston.”

This summer, Eric went on a humanitarian trip to the Thai-Burma border to learn more about conditions of Burmese refugees who have fled Burma’s military campaign against the Karen ethnic minority.

burma.jpg

The letter reads:

Dear United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon,

We are writing to urge you to personally intervene to secure the release of the world’s only imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize recipient, Aung San Suu Kyi. As you know, she has been held under house arrest in the Southeast Asian country of Burma for 12 of the past 17 years. On June 19th, she spent her 62nd birthday under house arrest.

Aung San Suu Kyi is not just a charismatic leader, she is the elected leader of the Burmese people. In Burma’s last election, she won 82% of the seats in parliament, yet the military regime cruelly locked her up along with many members of her party. Meanwhile, according to the United Nations expert on human rights in Burma, the ruling military regime has burned down or otherwise destroyed over 3,000 villages in eastern Burma, forcing over 1 million and a half people to flee their homes.

This courageous, brave woman whom many call “Burma’s Nelson Mandela” should be released and the military regime should end its attacks on civilians. We urge you to take action to secure her immediate release.

Sincerely,
(In Alphabetical Order)

Jennifer Aniston
Anne Archer
Kabir Bedi
Julie Benz
Jane Birkin
Jim Carrey
Jorja Fox

Eric has also joined Jorja Fox at events for animal lovers. I’m not sure if he’s a vegetarian or just interested in animal rights. Kudos to Eric for joining these worthy causes.

Jorja Fox an Marg Helgenberger Virtually Walk for Breast Cancer

Monday, October 8th, 2007

galtogal2007.jpg

Jorja and Marg have joined the Gal to Gal Virtual Walk to improve the lives of those diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer. The Gal to Gal Virtual Walk was created by Jeanne Fitzmaurice, founder of Design-her-Gals(grooviest stationary ever!), in 2005 when she realized that most breast cancer money raised goes to research, prevention and treatment for earlier stages.

margwalk.jpg

To join the walk you design an avatar for a $3 donation, dress yourself, add a personal story and then watch your virtual self walk from Boston to San Francisco against a changing landscape.  There are currently over 4,800 people walking the 31-city virtual route. Organizers hope that number reaches 1 million walkers.

If you sign up for the walk please send me the link or screenshot of your avatar. I’d love to feature our readers.  Click on the screenshots of Marg and Jorja to get a better look at their virtual selves.

Video: Jorja Fox Fans Take To the Sky

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

keepjorjabanner.jpg

The campaign to keep Jorja Fox on board has escalated to a mind blowing level. In less than a week’s time, Jorja Fox fans have banded together and hired a plane to fly a banner over the CSI offices at Universal City. Yesterday, at 10 a.m PST a banner with blue lettering and pink hearts which read “Keep Jorja Fox on CBS” graced a clear California sky.

Another flyover is set for Thursday at the same time. In addition to the flyover, fans have sent more than 3,200 letters from 37 countries, including Australia, the Netherlands and Japan. Many of letters contain dollars, or currency equivalent, to “help” CBS give Jorja a raise.

Jorja Fox has struck a passionate chord with women around the world. Mel, a mother two currently residing in Canada, sees Jorja as a role model for all women.

“Why am I Jorja Fox fan? The reason is simple. She doesn’t try to convert into society’s idea of beauty and perfection. And this in turn makes her more beautiful. She didn’t set out to be a role model and is humble about it.”

Aimee, a single mom from Missouri, shares a similar sentiment.

“I would really hate to see Sara leave the show. She is an intelligent, driven, successful, beautiful woman and an excellent role model for women. She proves that a woman can be strong and smart, yet still be feminine and desireable. Sara proves that it’s COOL to be a geek and it would a tragedy for the show and the fans to lose such a gifted actress”

Reports that Jorja is leaving the show permanently have not been confirmed by the network or Jorja.

Video and of the flyover after the jump.
