Jorja Fox and Eric Szmanda in Burma PSA

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

freeassk.jpg

Eric and Jorja’s PSA is part of the 30 Days for a Million Voices campaign. The US Campaign for Burma unveils a spot every day(usually they are a bit early) and encourages people to sign up and support the Burmese people. Here’s bit about struggle.

The people of the Southeast Asian country of Burma are locked in one of the world’s great freedom struggles. The country’s military rulers, the State Peace and Development Council, have run the country with an iron fist for the past 19 years, after they assumed power from a 26-year socialist dictatorship. In 1988, students, professionals, and others launched a nationwide uprising aimed at bringing an end to authoritarian rule during which millions of people courageously marched on the streets, calling for freedom and democracy.

The military responded by gunning down thousands of demonstrators and imprisoning thousands more in one of Southeast Asia’s most bloody episodes in recent history. The leader of the demonstrations, Min Ko Naing (pronounced Min Ko Nine), has been held behind bars ever since, where approximately 1,400 political prisoners remain. The most recognizable face of Burma, 1991 Nobel Peace Prize recipient Daw Aung San Suu Kyi (pronounced Daw Aung Sawn Sue Chee), has been in and out of house arrest and prison since 1988. Presently, she is held under house arrest.

You can also show your support by joining Fanista. For the entire month of May, 10% of your purchase will go to support the the campaign.

Those Close to Gary Dourdan Express Concern

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

hsdourdan.jpg

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, those close to Gary Dourdan have been concerned before the latest incident. ”We have been worried about Gary for some time,” a member the show’s production team told the the newspaper. ”It’s just a shame that he wasn’t able to get the help he needs before this happened.”

robhall.jpg

Actor Robert David Hall spoke with Newsday.com  on Wednesday about the troubled actor’s arrest.

“I actually worked with him yesterday, and everybody was moving on. It’s real hard to get work done when your’re so close to the end of the season .”

He also talked about the support Gary has from the cast and crew. “Almost to a person, I’d say ninety-nine percent of the cast and crew are very hopeful that Gary will be OK, and we love him deeply.”

When questioned about Gary’s departure, Hall didn’t have a concrete answer.  “He wants to do other things,” Hall said. “That’s the speculation…You and I and the majority of other people would say, why would anyone leave a hit show  but everybody’s different. I can’t comment on why Gary and CBS are parting company, but I was told he has dreams of doing other things. He’s a generous, soulful guy. I read the same stuff you do. I just know him as the guy who gave me a big hug yesterday. The cast and crew want the best for Gary.”

There’s still no official statement from Gary’s camp.  He’s due to be arraigned on May 28th. Let’s keep Gary in our thoughts.

Palm Springs PD Issues Official Statement About Gary Dourdan’s Drug Charges

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

normal_csi-lv-803_05.jpg

Palm Springs Police Department issued this statement regarding Gary’s arrest. There isn’t any new information from what I can tell.

On Monday, April 28 at approximately 5:12 AM, a Palm Springs patrol officer saw an occupied vehicle parked on the wrong side of the street on Sunny Dunes Road west of Gene Autry Trail. According to police reports, the interior light was on and it appeared as if the occupant of the vehicle in the driver’s seat was sleeping. The officer approached the vehicle and made contact with the occupant. He was identified by his California driver’s license as 41-year-old Robert Gary Durdin [Dourdan’s legal name] of Venice, CA. The officer described Durdin as disoriented and possibly under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The officer subsequently located suspected cocaine, heroin, ecstacy, miscellaneous prescription drugs, and paraphernalia. Durdin was placed under arrest and booked at the Palm Springs Jail for Possession of Narcotics and Possession of Dangerous Drugs. After booking, he was released on $5,000 bail at approximately 10:30 AM on Monday.

Gary Dourdan Busted on Drug Charges

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

According to TMZ, Gary was picked up by the Palm Springs police early yesterday morning.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ the actor was asleep in his car at 5:21 AM when they approached the vehicle and made the bust.

He was booked on suspicion of heroin, cocaine, ecstasy and prescription drugs possession. He posted $5,000 bail and was released. This comes on heals of rumors that Gary’s contract wasn’t renewed because of his personal issues.

Gary Dourdan Leaving CSI

Monday, April 14th, 2008

normal_csi-lv-803_05.jpg

After 8 seasons it’s miracle that his much of the cast is still on board. With Jorja leaving in the fall I expected at least one cast member to follow sooner rather than later. According to TV Guide’s Ausiello, the next original cast member to leave is Gary Dourdan.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that original CSIer Gary Dourdan — whose contract is also set to expire next month — has informed producers that he is leaving the show. Although a precise timeframe is not known, CSI’s May 15 season finale could serve as Warrick’s swan song.

A spokesman for CBS would neither confirm or deny the story. I translate that to mean, “He’s quite but we are trying to convince him to stay.”

Eight years is looong time to do a serial. Filming something as complicated as CSI is like filming a mini movie every week. I can imagine it takes a toll on your life.

Supposedly CSI is already looking for a new cast member to play the part of   Ray Santoro “who transfers from Henderson to join the graveyard shift at the Las Vegas crime lab.”
